It's August, and harvest is just around the corner for Rahr Malting Co.'s barley farmers.
What does it take to bring high-quality, dependable malt to your brewery? Last week we sat down with Aaron Eenisse, the Director of Operations for Malt Production at Rahr Malting Co. to discuss malting and what factors into each kernel.
We had a great time at the 2019 CCBA Summit, and here are the pictures to prove it - cheers to the California Craft Brewers Association for another great event. Thanks to Beachwood Blendery for a peek into the barrel room!
We had a wonderful time seeing friends old and new at the 2019 Craft Brewers Conference in Denver - here are just a few of our fond memories from the gathering. See you next year in San Antonio!
Resilience Butte County Proud IPA was conceived by Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. as a fundraiser for the Camp Fire Relief Fund. Sierra Nevada asked their colleagues in the craft brewing industry to join them in brewing the recipe, distributing the beer, and donating the proceeds to the efforts to rebuild after the most destructive wildfire in California history.
“We were in Germany as the details of the magnitude of the Camp Fire continued to come in. Ian [Ward, President of BSG] and I were together and I remember him grabbing his phone to text Ken Grossman at Sierra to ask how we can help. Ken called back shortly after and we immediately decided to free up as much malt as it would take to support their Resilience IPA concept. I think having been directly impacted by the Napa/Sonoma fires the year prior made it hit home particularly hard.” - Marc Worona, BSG’s Vice President of Sales
BSG, along with Rahr Malting Co. and Gambrinus Malting, were proud to sponsor the 2018 MBAA/ASBC Brewing Summit in San Diego. We were joined by our friends from Simpsons Malt and Weyermann® Specialty Malts, and learned a bunch from the talks and abstracts presented by members of the Rahr Technical Center team while socializing with colleagues new and old.
The inaugural year of Malt U was a great success. Co-presented by BSG and Rahr Malting Co., Malt U consisted of a day-long symposium of malt education hosted at Surly Brewing Co. followed by a morning of tours at Rahr's Shakopee campus, including Rahr's malthouses, Koda Energy, the Rahr Technical Center & Brewery, and BSG's Minnesota distribution center.
The Rahr Technical Center Brewery has been busy brewing for the past several months, and you can have a chance to sample the results at the 2018 Craft Brewers Conference in Nashville. The RTC beers encompass a wide range of styles highlighting the flavors and aromas of some of the ingredients available from BSG’s suppliers.
Starting on April 9th, Rahr will begin printing the lot code, date code, product name and product sku directly onto the gusset of the bags. The colored tag will still be attached, but there will no longer be standard analysis/certificate of analysis (COA) information listed on the tag.
